Required Documents for a Laos eVisa Application

Passport Requirements

Your passport is the single most important document for a Laos eVisa. It must meet all of the following criteria:

Photo Specifications

The passport-style photograph uploaded with your eVisa application must comply with strict requirements. Non-compliant photos are the leading cause of application rejection.

The photo must show your full face from the front, with both ears visible. Headphones, hats, and tinted glasses are not permitted. The image should be evenly lit with no shadows on the face or background.

LDIF Digital Arrival Form

The Lao Digital Immigration Form (LDIF) is a mandatory electronic form that all visitors must complete at least 3 days before arrival in Laos. This requirement was introduced to speed up immigration processing at airports and border crossings.

How to complete the LDIF:
1. Visit the official LDIF portal (linked from the Lao immigration website)
2. Enter your passport details, flight information, and accommodation address
3. Submit the form online
4. Save or print the confirmation QR code
5. Present the QR code to immigration officers on arrival

The LDIF is separate from the eVisa application. Having an approved eVisa does not automatically complete your LDIF. You must fill out both independently.

What Happens If You Do Not Complete the LDIF

Failure to complete the LDIF before arrival may result in:
– Longer waiting times at immigration
– Being asked to fill out a paper form on arrival (causing significant delays)
– Potential denial of entry in extreme cases

Supporting Documents (Recommended)

Travel Insurance

Although not required for the eVisa application itself, travel insurance is strongly recommended. Laos has limited medical facilities outside Vientiane, and evacuation to Thailand for serious medical issues can be extremely expensive. A policy covering at least USD 50,000 in medical expenses is advisable.

Documents for Minors (Under 18)

Children and infants applying for a Laos eVisa need the same core documents as adults, plus additional paperwork:

• Child’s own valid passport – the child must have their own passport (not listed on a parent’s passport)
• Birth certificate – a scanned copy showing the names of both parents
• Parental consent letter – if the child is travelling with only one parent or with a guardian, a signed consent letter from the absent parent(s) is required
